Using QR Codes for Portal Invitations

Creating QR codes is an effective way to have parents join a Word of Life Portal classroom using their smartphone.

How to Create QR Codes for Parent Portal Invitations:

Step 1: Access the unique invitation link for each classroom.
  • From the main page of the Administrator Portal, click on Set Up Classrooms.
  • Click on the class name.
  • Click the Add Parents button.

  • Click Copy Invitation Link.  This copied link will be used to generate the QR code for a particular class.

Step 2: Create a QR Code using an online QR Code Generator
  • We recommend using Adobe Express Free QR Code Generator, which is free and does not require a credit card.

  • Click here to open the QR Code Generator: https://www.adobe.com/express/feature/image/qr-code-generator

  • Paste the link that was copied from the Copy Invitation Link button from the Word of Life Portal.

  • A QR code will appear and the Download button will turn blue and will be clickable. You can also right click on the QR code image and "Copy Image".

  • Clicking the "Download" button will download the QR code to your computer, likely to your Downloads folder.

  • The next step is to open the file and copy it onto a document with instructions for the parents noting which class this link will register them for, ie 1st Grade, as each code is unique to the classroom.

Step 3: Share QR Codes to Invite Parents
  • Be creative! QR Codes can be shared at a parent open house, in a classroom newsletter, or sent home in large print on a single piece of paper to catch parents' attention.

  • Parents will use the camera on their smartphone to scan the QR code. The link that appears will navigate to a registration page where they will be required to enter their email addresses and first and last names.

  • Parents signing up for multiple classrooms should use the same email address each time to allow the portal to sync all grade levels for the family under one parent account.
